A BS in forensic science is a four-year degree that combines biology, chemistry and law with laboratory casework methods. Several public and private universities in Pakistan now offer it, and graduates go on to forensic laboratories, police units, research and further study.
What the degree covers
- Core sciences: biology, chemistry, biochemistry, genetics and physics.
- Forensic disciplines: DNA and serology, toxicology, fingerprints, questioned documents, firearms, trace evidence and digital forensics.
- Crime scene investigation, evidence handling and chain of custody.
- Statistics, research methods, law of evidence and expert testimony.
Universities offering BS forensic science
Programmes open and change often, so confirm each one on the university’s own admissions page and check HEC recognition before applying.
- University of Biological and Applied Sciences (UBAS), Lahore: its Fall 2026 fee page lists Rs 7,500 per credit hour and a Rs 25,000 admission fee, about Rs 1,007,500 in total for 131 credit hours.
- Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Karachi: describes its programme as the first comprehensive forensic science degree in Sindh, and asks for HSSC Pre-Medical or equivalent.
- Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro
- Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering and IT, Rahim Yar Khan
- Superior University, Lahore
- University of Management and Technology, Sialkot campus
- Preston University, Islamabad
Eligibility and admission
Most programmes ask for FSc Pre-Medical or an equivalent such as A Levels with biology and chemistry. Admissions usually open after intermediate results are announced. Some universities admit on FSc marks alone; others run an entry test and interview.
How to judge a programme
- Is it recognised by the HEC?
- Do students work in a real laboratory, with PCR, chromatography and microscopy, or only in lectures?
- Do faculty members have casework experience, not only research?
- Does it arrange internships with forensic agencies or hospital medico-legal departments?
- Where are its graduates working now?
After the degree
Graduates can apply for junior forensic scientist posts, continue to an MPhil in a specialism, or move into research. See our guide to the scope of forensic science in Pakistan for employers and current salaries, and the branches of forensic science to choose a specialism.
